Charles Jesse Barlow was born in Washington County, Virginia in 1856. He married Catherine Susanna Wilcox in 1883. The couple had five children, four of whom lived to adulthood. His daughters Edna Katherine and Pearl May are the primary focus of this work.

Includes genealogical information about the direct ancestors of Edna Katherine and Pearl May Barlow including the Barlow, Edmiston and Robinson families, whose American roots were in Virginia; the Wilcox family from New York; the allied families of Alton, Farwell and Welby, whose roots were in New England and two New York German families, Harwick and Martz along with the allied Walter family. Also includes a historical narrative about the lives of Pearl May, Edna Katherine and their two brothers.
