Ancestors of the author's parents, Peter R. and Lenna M. Wanger Rhodes. Since most of their ancestors were of the Mennonite faith, and few married outside of their faith, there were intermarriages of distant relatives. Twenty-three persons appear twice in the author's ancestry and five appear three times.

Peter Reuben Rhodes (1899-1953) was the son of Reuben S. Rhodes and Maggie Rhodes of Dayton, Virginia. His father, Reuben Swope Rhodes (b. 1858), was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, the son of Frederick A. Rhodes (1819-1900) and Magdalena Heatwole Rhodes (1820-1898). His mother, Mary Magdalene Rhodes (1859-1919), was the daughter of Peter Rhodes (1824-1863) and Anna Beery Rhodes (1822-1876). Lenna Marie Wenger Rhodes was born in 1901, the daughter of John Reuben Wenger (1878-1943) and Emma Virginia Weaver Wenger (1881-1921).

Ancestors include: Henry Rhodes (1748-1827) of Pennsylvania and Rockingham County, Virginia -- Christian Wenger (fl. 1727) of the Palatinate, Germany and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania -- Samuel Weaver (1790-1857) of Rockingham County, Virginia -- Matheus Hütwohl [Heatwole] (fl. 1748) of the Palatinate, Germany and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania -- Abraham Beery (1718-1799) of Switzerland; Adams County, Pennsylvania; and Rockingham County, Virginia.
