Peter Hamilton Clark (1779-1832), a Baptist preacher, was born at Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Absalom and Martha Hamiliton Clark. He and his wife, Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of John and Catherine Laprade Campbell, had nine children, ca. 1800-ca. 1818. The family migrated from Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to Greene County, Illinois. Their grandson, Peter Franklin Clark (1829-1919) was born in Greene County, Illinois. He traveled to California to prospect for gold in 1850, but returned home to Missouri. He married Margaret Jane Marsh (1830-1900) in 1852 in Lawrence County, Missouri. They had four children, 1853-1865, born at Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He again traveled west during the Civil War as a member of the Union Army. His third trip west, he took his wife and children on the Oregon trail in 1874. They settled in Polk County, Oregon. Peter F. and Margaret Jane Clark died at West Salem, Oregon. Their oldest daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Clark (1853-1897), married Albert Winfield Cochran (1850-1937), a native of Scotland, Indiana, in 1874, just before they migrated west with the Oregon wagon train. They had eleven children, 1876-1897. She died in childbirth at Palouse City, Washington.

Includes a list of descendants of Peter Franklin and Margaret Jane Marsh Clark, and a list of descendants and relatives showing their relationship to Peter Franklin Clark. Includes Cochran, Chase, Burns, Orchard and other related families.
