Ancestral families and family of Harold L. and Shirley Martin Boyd. Harold Loyd Boyd was born in 1933 at Dover, Stewart County, Tennessee, the son of Frank Acree Boyd (b. 1904) and Marie Exulia (Pattie) Crutcher Boyd (1903-1991). He joined the army in 1953, received flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, when he met and married Shirley Ruth Martin in 1956 in the army chapel at Fort Meyer, Virginia. She was born at Clay Center, Clay County, Kansas, the daughter of Albin David Martin (1912-1973) and Mildred Patricia Jones Martin (b. 1915). Hal and Shirley had three children, 1958-1962, born in army hospitals at Bad Canstadt, Germany; Ft. Riley, Kansas; and Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. Hal retired in 1988 and in 1993, he and Shirley were living in a motor home traveling in the United States and Canada. Children and grandchildren were living in Kansas and Pennsylvania.

Ancestors include: Robert Boyd (d. 1826) of County Antrim, Ireland, and Frederick County, Virginia; and his father Thomas Boyd of Scotland and County Antrim -- Gottleib Fisher (1841-1895) of Wurms, Germany and Stewart County, Tennessee --Thomas Crutcher (1672?-1722) of Essex County, Virginia -- Joel Jones (fl. 1808) of Bertie County, North Carolina -- Natanial Martin (before 1765-1817/8) of Kentucky and White County, Tennessee -- Elijah Staggs (1795-1871) of Kentucky and Vigo County, Indiana -- Evan Griffith Jones (1855-1937) of Prentig, North Wales and Clay County, Kansas; and his father, Giffith Jones of Prentig -- William Crouse (b. ca. 1765).
