The Rudder family of Lunenburg Co., Virginia. Family of Alexander Rudder (b. ca. 1720-30, d. 1798), who was born in Lunenburg Co., Va. and also died there. He was married (1) to Sarah Brooks; (2) to Elizabeth McLaughlin in 1791. Alexander and Sarah had nine children. Authors line comes through Robert Rudder (1764-1843) born in Lunenburg Co., and died in Knox Co., Tennessee. He married Catherine Ferguson (1771-1853), daughter of Joel and Catherine Ferguson. They had twelve children. Little is known about the other children of Alexander and Sarah Rudder. Some sold their land in Lunenburg Co., Va. in 1806 and moved to Greene Co., Tenn. Amey Rudder and her husband Jesse Penn moved to South Carolina before 1799. Family members and descendants live in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Nebraska and elsewhere.
