Walter Somerville was born at Glasgow, Scotland and married Janet Steel, of the Parish of Glasgow in 1709. They were the parents of six children. Their son William (b.1717) married Janet Mitchell and they were the parents of four children. Their son Walter (b.1740) married Mary Gray in 1762. Their son James (1774-1858) was born at Glasgow. Family members emigrated to America and settled in Culpeper Co., VA. James married Mary Atwell, daughter of Captain Francis Atwell and Mary McDonald. Several generations of descendants are given. Descendants lived in Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi and elsewhere.
Includes Atwell, Radford, Yates, Barbour, Briggs, Steel and other related families.
