Chiefly ancestral families, descendants, and related families of the author's parents, Charles Thomas and Irma Swan Brothers. Charles Thomas Brothers (1884-1923) was born at Paris, Texas, the son of Thomas Sawyer Brothers (b. 1845) and Lucy B. Askins Brothers (b. 1883). His mother died while he was young and he lived with the R. H. Hobson family at Taylor, Louisiana. After a tour of duty in the navy, he worked as a farm laborer at Twin Falls, Idaho. There he met and married Irma Swan, a school teacher. They had five sons, 1913-1921, born in Idaho and Washington. He was killed in a truck accident near Coulee, Washington. Irma Swan (1890-1977) was born in western Nebraska, the daughter of James Henry Swan (1861-1940) and Gertrude Selina Wheeler Swan (1869-1965). After her husband's death in 1923, she taught school at Cheney, Washington. She married 2) Thomas C. Laird (1887-1977) in 1946. She died at Wenatchee, Washington. Her sons live in Washington, Oregon, and California.

Ancestors include: John Swan (1721-1799) of Green County, Pennsylvania; William Beadslee (1605-1661) of Stratford, Connecticut; James Bonar (1788-1878) of Maryland and Iowa; and Thomas Brothers (b. ca. 1780) of Colleton District, South Carolina, and his son, Thomas Lewis Brothers of Mongomery, Alabama.

Record also traces line of descent from Thomas Brothers (b. ca. 1780), through his son, Elijah Brothers (1801-1869) of Mississippi, to Maxwell Rice Brothers (b. 1909) of Utah and California.
