Hugh, Alexander, and William Swinton, brothers, immigrated to South Carolina, ca. 1722. Hugh returned to Scotland. William married Mrs. Hannah White Brown and had two sons and a daughter. He died in 1743. Their son, Hugh (1737-1809), and his wife, Susannah Splatt, lived in Charleston, South Carolina, and had thirteen children. Descendants lived in South Carolina, Alabama, and elsewhere.

Alexander Swinton married Judith Simmons and had a son, William (1735- 1780). William married Mary Slade in 1759. They had a son and two daughters. The son died unmarried. Their daughter, Sarah, married married John McIntosh in Colleton, South Carolina, in 1759. William married 2) Sarah Barron in 1766. They had a daughter. William was killed on Willtown road in 1780 in defense of his county. Descendants listed lived in Georgia.
