The Ray family of Lancashire, England. Two sons of John Ray of Lancashire immigrated to America. John, Jr. was born abt. 1658. He settled in Ann Arundel Co., Maryland. The second son, William Ray I (d. 1738), settled in Prince George's Co., Maryland. He and his wife, Anne, married abt. 1676 in England and had ten children born there before coming to America. Descendants live in Maryland, Texas, Kentucky, Illinois, Alabama, Iowa, Nebraska and elsewhere. Includes descendants of William Ball born 1754 in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was the son of John and Margaret Williams Ball. In 1790 in Lincoln Co., Kentucky he married Letticia Smith, the daughter of Edward and Lovisa Strother Smith.
Includes allied families of Ball, Chism, Perry, etc.
