"The marriage notices and obituaries in this file are drawn from Virginia newspapers, with the exception of entries on colored cards or marked with an 'X', which come from out-of-state papers. ...Note - all entries from out-of-state papers are entered on colored cards except National Intelligencer entries which are marked with an 'X'." - cards.

Abstracts of marriages and obituaries, 1736-1820.

Abstracts are on cards which are in alphabetical order by name. Information on the cards varies but gives at least a name, the date of the event or newspaper, and the newspaper's name.
