John Havins was born in England and immigrated to America as a young man, before the Revolutionary War. He married Mary Henderson and they had two sons, ca. 1770-1772, born in Virginia. James Havins (ca. 1770-1822) married Sarah Miller in Greene County, Tennessee. They had eight children, 1791-1808, all born in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He died in Alabama. John Havins (b. 1772) married Katy (Catherine) Hamilton in Tennessee, ca. 1793. They had six children, 1794-1815, all born in Jefferson County, Tennessee. The two sons and their family migrated from Tennessee to Alabama. Some of the family migrated to Missouri, ca. 1829, and some of them migrated to Texas as early as 1843.
