The Svenska Methodist Episkopal Kyrkan (Swedish Methodist Episopal Church) was organized in 1877 in Clear Lake, Minnesota. It was also known as the Svenska Methodist Kyrkan (Swedish Methodist Church) or the Clear Lake and New Sweden Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1906, another chapel was built in Lafayette, Minnesota, and given the name of the First Methodist Church. The two churches were sometimes referred to as the Lafayette-Clear Lake Methodist Episcopal Church. Between 1963 and 1968 the two churches merged under the name of United Methodist Church in Lafayette.
