George Henton obtained a patent for land in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, in 1720. His son, John Henton, migrated to Virginia, ca. 1751 and settled in Rockingham County. He died there, ca. 1782. His son, David Henton, was born ca. 1751. He married Mary Van Meter (1757-1832), daughter of Jacob and Letilia Stroud Van Meter, ca. 1773. They had two children, 1775-1778. David was drowned in 1780 while on the way to Kentucky with the Jacob Van Meter family. His widow married 2) Major William Chenoweth, son of William and Ruth Calvert Chenoweth, in 1781. They had nine children, 1782-1801. She died in Nelson County, Kentucky. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas,Oklahoma, Iowa, Texas, Montana, Oregon, Washington, California and elsewhere.
