Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Bishop families in America. Focus is on the descendants of John Bishop (1709-1785), the son of Eleazar Bishop and Sarah Dart who immigrated to Connecticut ca. 1692. John settled in New London, Connecticut where his four sons were born. His sons were: Captain William Bishop (1732-1815), Deacon Peter Bishop (1735-1826), Colonel John Bishop Jr. (1736-1815), and Timothy Bishop (1740-1827). In 1757, Governor Charles Lawrence invited New Englanders to farm the land in Nova Scotia left vacant after the expulsion of the Acadians. John and his sons, with other New England Planters left Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island for Nova Scotia. The Bishops settled in Horton, Nova Scotia in 1760. Later descendants also lived in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan (Canada), and in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.
