This family considers the ancestry of four families. The first belongs to Hans Heinrich Schneider (Henry Snyder). He was born in 1667 Georg and Anna Maria (Stehlin) Schneider in Botenheim, Württemberg, Germany. He married in 1692 to Anna Dorothea Schilling and they had one daughter, Anna Dorothea, who married in 1712 Hans Jacob Öhler. Heinrich, his wife, their daughter, her husband, and their family all immigrated to Virginia. The second family is that of Hans Conrad Amberger (Conrad Amburger). He was born in 1683 to Johann Conrad and Anna Magdalena (Lederer) Amberger in Bönnigheim, Germany. In 1714 he married Anna Catharina Schuhnig, widow of Hans Georg Rohleder. He immigrated in 1717 to Virginia but it may have been with his second wife Barbara. The third immigrant family is the family of Andreas Kercher (Andrew Kerker). He and his wife Margaretha and family were from Zazenhausen, Germany, and came to Virginia in 1717. The last family was that of Hans Friedrich Kappler (Frederick Kapler). He was born in 1689 to Hans Adam and Anna Maria (Dietrich) Kappler in Bretzfeld, Germany. He and his wife Maria Barbara immigrated in 1717.

The Germanna colony was located in Spotsylvania County but may also have been in part of Orange County, Virginia. Some immigrants went to Culpeper County.
