The progenitors of James Young of Louisiana were James and Jane Young of Frederick (now Winchester) Virginia. James Young was born in 176l on the farm of his parents,Goodman and Lydia Fawcett Young (believed to be his mother), " ... located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and not far removed from Winchester, Fredrick County, Virginia."--P. 11. He later inherited property from his mother in Ohio County, Virginia, now Brooke County, West Virginia. Sometime between 1790 and 1796 while living "near Natchez" James met and married Judith Coleman (b. 1771), who family tradition says " ... was the daughter of John Coleman & Patience Radford. ... About 1796 James Young and his family moved to Spanish West Florida and settled in the area known as The Plains Community."--P. 11 where he acquired extensive holdings of over " ... twenty five hundred acres of the rolling table lands of east Baton Rouge."--P. 11. "Records in the parish court house at Baton Rouge show the deaths of James and his wife as having occurred in 1840 and 1823, respectively. They were interned in the burial plot on their plantation near the old homestead. ... The plot has since become known as the Young Family Cemetery ... "--P. 12. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, California and elsewhere.
