The Church of South India (CSI) was established at the time of Indian independence in 1947. It is a confederation or union of Protestant churches (Methodists, Presbyterians, Congregationalists, Anglicans, etc.) that grew out of the Church Union Movement of the first half of the 20th century. The records filmed here come from a number of different 'stations' within the 'diocese of Madras'. Most of the records originated in one or another local congregation of one of the original denominations but are now archived under the stewardship of the CSI.
