The parish of St. Ignatius Catholic Church began as a mission of Toussaint in 1883. This parish was originally known as Big Ditch, then Momineetown. It became known as Oregon in 1957. The parish built their first church in 1883. In 1891, the pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Toledo took over the care of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. The parish received their first resident pastor in 1892. Beginning in 1916, the parish built new church and school buildings. A fire destroyed this combination of church and school in 1926. The new combination church and school building was completed in 1927. The school was closed in 1939 due to the inability of the parish to finance the continuation of the school.
