Justice Crockett describes what Justice Wade was like to work with during the 23 years he sat on the Supreme Court.

Tribute Abstracts:

...There was one characteristic so predominant in his nature and so typical of his manner of life that I venture all who knew him well would agree that it could be expressed in one four letter word: WORK...he was at his desk the day he died....went home...sudden stroke...

...

Due to his early life and experiences... he never forgot people of his own origins. With them he had a sense of self identification which remained with him all his days. These influences found expression in a friendly and unassuming manner with people, and provided a rich background for the sense of justice...individual rights..,and liberties which was always evident in his judicial work. The depth and breadth of this earthiness and feeling of kinship with people were reflected in his humanitarian views and the forth rightness with which he approached the problems in legal cases and the writing of decisions upon them

...he saw the law as a clear stream flowing between banks of reason on one side and determined facts on the other, and moving towards what he considered just and equitable. It was his purpose to so resolve it and set it forth in plain and simple language...

... he was not fond of technicalities, affectation, rhetoric...which he called "splitting hairs"...he was impatient of sophistry, excess verbage...obscuring issues

...His associates appreciated he had no pretension of infallibility [very difficult dealing with judges that have the attitude]

The Tribute also includes some lifo information.
