Australian Military Records: from the Boer War to World War II

Looking for an ancestor or relative who served in either the Boer War or World War 1 and 2 and don't know where to start? This session outlines where to look for indexes and digitised records in a number of state and national archives and libraries. While army dossiers are free to access, there is often a range of other records relating to the soldier which can be found by searching online catalogues. You may even be able to locate a photograph of your relative or ancestor. War unit diaries have been digitised as well as some soldier's diaries for World War 1. Imagine if it was the same unit your person served in and gave an in-depth look at what they experienced. Spare a thought for those back home who heard the news that their son or husband was missing in action or believed killed in action. Sometimes the files reveal this heartbreak back home. Military records are wonderful for family history research. Come along and find out.
