Joseph B. Everett

Joseph B. Everett, AG®, MLS was the Family and Local History Librarian at Brigham Young University from 2018 until his death in 2026. In his 25+ year career he also worked for FamilySearch and Ancestry. He had a BA in Family History/Genealogy and Russian Language, and a Master’s in Library Science. He was accredited in German and Russian Empire research.

Throughout his career Joe worked in many capacities, supervising records collections and supervising patron services. He was instrumental in digitizing the Hamburg Passenger Lists and in retiring Family Search microfilm in favor of digital records. His work made genealogy records readily available to a far wider audience. At BYU he revolutionized the services offered to students and patrons, bringing the blessings of family history work to a far wider audience. He was active on many genealogical committees and served as chair on many. "His great joy was helping everyone, especially young people, find belonging through connecting personally with their ancestors."

We thank him for his selfless contributions to the family history industry and community, and miss him daily.
