Birgit Kibal

Birgit Kibal was born in 1976 in Estonia, a former Soviet republic, and graduated the University of Tartu as historian in 1999. Since then she started to work as an archivist at the National Archives of Estonia, serving as a higher official since 2004 (head of communication), and holding currently a position of head of foreign affairs. Birgit is President of ICARUS since May 2023, after being a member of the board since 2017 and a representative of the National Archives of Estonia within ICARUS community over the last ten years. Also, she’s having a close cooperation with the colleagues in the field of archival education in Estonia as she’s been giving lectures at the Department of Archival Studies of the Institute of History and Archaeology at the University of Tartu (Estonia), both within the module of archival studies and the course of archival arrangement (incl. the key problems of global archival studies, analysis of international scholarly articles, and conducting the seminars).
