The online book that I was reading in the FamilySearch Digital Library timed out

Depending on your internet connection, very large books from our historical collections can take a long time to load. Leaving your browser inactive while the book is loading may cause your account session to time out.

If you are unable to load the book in a timely manner, try using a computer at a local library or FamilySearch center where the internet connection might be faster. Even on faster internet connections, however, some books are over 1 gigabyte and can be difficult to load. If you leave a digital book open and your browser remains inactive for too long, the viewing window will likewise time out. In that case, you see a prompt to reload the file or close it.

  • If you are not finished with the book, click Reload.
  • Otherwise, click Close.

If you feel that you have fast internet and the book should not have timed out, clear your temporary files and cookies.

How do I delete all of the cookies and temporary files stored by my internet browser?
