How do I tag people in stories and audio files?

Tagging identifies the people who are mentioned in your stories and audio files. Tags can also ensure that the story or audio files appear in Memories on that person's person page in Family Tree.

A person in Family Tree can be tagged in up to 1,000 memories. No limit exists to the number of people that you can tag in a Memory.

Note: Any user can add a tag to a memory, regardless of who uploaded the memory.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.
  2. At the top of the page, click Memories, followed by Gallery.
  3. Click the book icon for stories or the headphones icon for audio files.
    • (Optional) To see only untagged stories or audio files, click the down arrow beside Arrange, and then click Not Tagged.
  4. Click the story or audio file that you want to tag.
  5. To the right of the story or audio file, click Tag People in the Tagged People box.
  6. In the text box, enter the name of the person. As you type, names of your ancestors and relatives in Tree appear.
    1. If the correct name appears. When you click a name, the system automatically attaches the memory to the person in Tree.
    2. If the correct name does not appear, finish typing the name, scroll to the bottom of the list of names, and click Add New. The memory is not yet attached to Tree. If the person is in Tree, click Attach to Tree and find the person using his or her name or ID number.
  7. Repeat for everyone in the story or audio file.
