A simple way to find historical records for a specific ancestor is to search from the person page in Family Tree. If you find records, you can use the source linker to attach them as a source in Family Tree.
When you start a search from Family Tree, the name and other search criteria are filled out for you.
Steps (website)
- Sign in to FamilySearch.org, and navigate to the appropriate Person page.
- In the Search Records section on the right, click FamilySearch. A list of historical records appears based on the information in the Family Tree record. You can modify the search in the right panel.
- In the search results, click a name to view record details.
- Review the information and the image, if available.
- If the source applies to your ancestor, click Attach to Family Tree. If the source is already attached, you see who it is attached to. Click the paper with a paper clip icon and review the attachment.
- Use the source linker to attach the source.
Steps (mobile app)
- In the Family Tree mobile app, find and tap the name of an ancestor.
