How do I edit memory descriptions?

If you contributed the Memories item, you can edit the Description. Stories are the only items without a Description field. 

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.
  2. At the top of the page, click Memories.
  3. Click Gallery.
  4. Find the photo, document, or audio file with the description you want to edit.
  5. Click the item.
  6. The memory item is displayed on the left. In the box on the right, the Description field is included in the Details section. 
  7. Choose to Add Title, Add Place, Add Date, Add Description, or Add Audio.
  8. Click in the text box, and make the changes you want.
  9. Click Submit.  
  10. Alternatively, view and edit the Title, Place, Date, and Description at the same time by clicking the Edit button to the right the title above the memory.

You can only edit Memories you contributed. You can add a comment to other items. The comment box is located beneath the photo or document.

Steps (mobile app)

Steps are the same for Android or Apple iOS devices.

  1. Open the Family Search Family Tree or Memories app.
  2. Navigate to the photo, document, or audio file.
    1. In the Family Tree app, tap a person. Tap the Memories tab and find the item.
  3. Tap the item.
  4. In the top right, tap the 3 dots and tap Details.
  5. Tap in the Description field and make the changes you want.
  6. Tap Save.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite has no Memories feature. To edit Memories, visit the full website.
