After you request family names in Family Tree, you can print the family name cards from home. If you cannot print the cards yourself, you can print a Family Ordinance Request (FOR) instead. You take the request to the temple, where temple workers print the cards for you.
You can also reprint lost requests and family name cards using this same process.
If you have no printer at home
- Print the request from a FamilySearch center or other place where you can use a printer.
- Write down the Family Ordinance Request number. The 16-digit number appears beneath the bar code on the request. Take the number to the temple. A temple worker can print the cards for you.
Steps (website)
- Sign in to FamilySearch, and click Temple.
- To print names that you reserved, click My Reservations. To print names from a family group, click Family Groups.
To the left of each name whose card you want to print, click the box.
- You can select up to 50 names at 1 time. A counter at the top of the list tracks how many names you have selected.
- Please select a number that you can finish in a reasonable amount of time.
- If the list contains more than 1 page of names, use the Page options at the bottom of list to navigate to the other pages, and continue selecting names. Your selections stay selected as you go from page to page.
(Optional) Use the filter to see the selected names:
- Click Filter.
- Click Selected.
- At the top of your list, click the blue Print button.
- Click Print an FOR.
- Click to uncheck the box for each ordinance that you do not want to include on the family name card.
- To remove contact information on cards, click Show Contact Information on Family Name Cards. The option is on by default.
- Click Continue.
- Read the instructions, and then click Continue. The system creates your request and displays it as a PDF file in another tab in your browser. If the PDF does not appear, here are solutions:
- Make sure that your pop-up blocker allows pop-ups.
- Make sure that Adobe Reader is installed on your computer.
- Print the request using the print feature of your browser. On most browsers, click File, and then click Print.
- A message asks you to confirm the request printed. If it did not print, check for these problems:
- Is the printer on?
- Does the printer have paper?
- Are the printer cables correctly secured?
- Did you have a paper jam or other printer malfunction?
- If it printed, click Yes. If it did not, and you do not want to try again, click No. If you try again and still cannot get your request to print from your computer, sign out, and try again later. You can sign in on another computer with another printer at home, at the home of a friend, or at the local FamilySearch center.
- Take the Family Ordinance Request to the temple. Or contact the FamilySearch center next to the temple you attend to ask if they also print name cards. Temple or center workers can print the cards for you to use to perform the ordinances. After you perform the ordinances, temple workers record them and send the information back to Family Tree.
If you are unable to print from a FamilySearch center, ensure you are using a Windows 10 computer.
