All participants in a family group can both see and edit all information in the family group tree. This allows other family members, for example, to share photos and memories about each other.
Group members can also select their own starting person for use when displaying the family group tree.
All group participants should be aware of and follow the privacy guidelines, FamilySearch terms of use, and the group's code of conduct.
Contributors have the responsibility to make sure that they have the rights and permission to share information within the group, including the personal information of other living individuals.
Living people
All participants in a family group can both see and edit all information in the family group tree.
There is no way for a user to lock their record in the family group tree to prevent other group members from changing it.
Deceased ancestors
All group participants can see and edit the deceased ancestors who are connected to the living people in the family group tree.
The main difference between living and deceased people in a family group tree is that the deceased ancestors are in the public tree, where all FamilySearch users can see and edit the information.
There is no way to move a deceased ancestor from the public tree so that only a family group can see or edit it.
Confidential people
If you have confidential people in your private list, you can copy them into a family group tree and share access to the information with group participants. This is the only case where deceased ancestors are visible only to group participants.
