This class will teach about who the Hessian Soldiers were and available resources to assist you in your research. A brief historical background of Hessian Soldiers will be presented. Websites of associations dedicated to researching Hessian Soldiers will be introduced. The HETRINA database and other area-specific resources will be reviewed.

This segment reviews available name lists of soldiers from Ansbach-Bayreuth.

This lesson teaches how to use the database from the Norwegian American Genealogical Center. The database discusses early emigrants and where they settled in the United States of America.

This presentation demonstrates the value of using FamilySearch as a resource to help the viewer discover their lineage and answer questions of identity. Viewers learn to effecitvely use the historical records collections, the browes-only collections, the Familysearch catalog, and the digital "Books" (a shared collections of over a dozen institutional libraries). Effective search techniques are taught. African American collections, some unique to FS, are highlighted. This class was originally presented at the AAHGS 2020 virtual conference.
