XnView troubleshooting in FamilySearch centers

XnView Overview

XnView is the image-editing software for FamilySearch center Digital Imaging Systems or Scan Pro equipment. Family history centers can also install XnView from the Application Finder.

Center patrons can use XnView to view, convert, organize, or edit image files. XnView is free for private, noncommercial, educational use and to nonprofit organizations. The program supports many image file formats. To learn more, visit the XnView website at http://www.xnview.com/.

Unable to change a setting

If you are unable to change a setting, reinstall the software to return the system to default settings.

Unable to adjust brightness

If a guest scans a film in XnView but cannot adjust the brightness or levels, have the guest save the image, close, and reopen it. Options to make adjustments become available again.

XnView closes and shows error

Sometimes XnView closes after you scan an image or you see an error message similar to "XnView has encountered an error and needs to close." The issue is associated with Digital Imaging Systems using the Canon MS300 or MS300II scanners. Most likely the installation for XnView did not complete successfully. Try the following:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click (All) Programs.
  3. Click FHC Support Tools.
  4. Click Application Manager.
  5. Click XnView to reinstall.

If that does not fix the issue, contact FamilySearch Support.
