Why do indexing batches expire?

One of the main goals of FamilySearch indexing is to avoid delays in making records available to people searching for their ancestors.

The My Batches page shows the due date for each batch. Most batches expire after 7 days. If you do not complete the indexing and submit the batch before the due date, the system withdraws the batch. The data you entered for that batch is still saved, but it gives other volunteers a chance to pick up where you left off so that the process can continue to move forward.

Occasionally, projects may have shorter deadlines. These shorter deadlines usually occur as a larger project nears completion.

Note: FamilySearch uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) when pulling expired batches. GMT is the time zone for the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, United Kingdom.
