The guidelines are general for support missionaries. Computer system requirements can vary by area. Someone from the area contacts newly called missionaries and evaluates computer skills and needs.
Assessment - Computer, Phone, and Internet Requirements: (Functionality)
- Computer headset for hands free communication allows you to talk and type at the same time. The mission uses a browser-based communication app for telephone work. No telephone is required.
- Internet connection: Minimum 10 (recommend 15) megabits per second (Mbps) download speed. Minimum 10 (recommend 15) megabits per second (Mbps) upload speed. Ping or Latency less than 150ms. - Browsers: FamilySearch supports Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari. The missionary must have at least 2 of these browsers installed and ready for use.
- Processors: "i" series (i3, i5. i7 or i9) or equivalent. Examples include the AMD Ryzen 3, 5, 7 or 9. Recommended is the i5 or Ryzen5 or better.
- RAM: minimum 8GB RAM (recommend 12GB or more).
- Operating system: For a Windows based system, it must be compatible with Windows 11. Apple computers must be the current version or one back. As of 10/22/2023 the current OS 14X - Sonoma, so a MAC could have either OS 14x - Sonoma or OS 13x -Ventura. Install all updates when they become available for both Windows and MAC operating systems.
- Minimum monitor resolution: 1024x768.
- Storage: An SSD with a minimum free hard drive space at least 20% of total drive capacity. At least 50GB of available space.
- Audio: provided through a USB or Bluetooth connected headset with attached microphone. If the missionary has Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids, they are sufficient as a missionary headset.
Before training or service, Senior Service Missionaries install and test additional software used to serve:
- Test Church log-in.
- Test the SharePoint log-in and system view.
- Test the current meeting software (Microsoft Teams).
- Make sure remote-control software is installed and working.
