I got a message that the site does not support this browser

You may receive one of the following messages:

"Your web browser is not supported. In order to use all of the features on FamilySearch.org, we recommend that you upgrade to a newer version or switch to a different browser."

"Attention: This site does not support the current version of your web browser. To get the best possible experience using our website, we recommend that you upgrade to a newer version or install another browser."

On March 23, 2021, FamilySearch changed the way historical records are searched for on the site. In order to use the new search features, newer browsers are required.

Another reason for this message is security. FamilySearch is taking this step to ensure the privacy of data as it is transported over the internet. This means that users with older, insecure browser versions must upgrade to a browser version that supports TLS. The SSL/TLS protocols provide an encrypted connection between a browser and a web server. This security-related change began on January 10, 2017. As of July 12, 2021, FamilySearch no longer supports the early versions of TLS, namely versions 1.0 and 1.1.

Known Issue

Sometimes the unsupported browser message is received when patrons are using the most current browser and are trying to use third-party software, such as Family Tree Maker, that uses Internet Explorer (or Microsoft programming tools that are based on IE) to interface with FamilySearch.org. The only solution for this warning is to ignore the message or use different software.
