I can't see top-level menu or other parts of FamilySearch

Ensure you are signed into the FamilySearch.org website first

If your browser is set to use certain languages (as of June 2021 these languages are: French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish) the top-level menu, which typically includes: Family Tree, Search, Memories, Indexing and Activities, could be blank. In order to see these menu options, you must first sign in to the FamilySearch.org website.

Below are some other reasons the FamilySearch webpage might not display correctly on your screen:

  • Your screen is too small to display all of the content, so the menus do not display.
  • Your computer’s zoom feature is in effect. The screen now has insufficient space to display full content.
  • An ad blocker, parental control program, antivirus software, pop-up blocker, firewall, or similar program affects your experience.

Displaying the top menu when it disappears

If you zoom in too closely, or if you use a device with a small screen, the top menu options disappear from the FamilySearch website.

  1. In the top-right corner, click the 3 horizontal lines to see the main menu.
  2. Click a down-arrow to see the specific items in each menu.

Turning off an ad blocker or similar program

Adjust the settings of the program that blocks the FamilySearch display to solve this type of problem. We recommend that you look for specific instructions online or use the Help feature of the services and programs that you use.

Here are some of the kinds of instructions or titles you might look for:

  • How to add a website as an exception to the sites a service blocks.
  • How to add a website to the program's white list.
  • How to unblock the website.

If you continue to have trouble or cannot find the program that causes the problem, contact FamilySearch Support, and we will try to assist you.
