How do I share memories that I find with family and friends?

When you sign in to FamilySearch, you can share a memory item on social media, email it, or provide a URL link. You can also share a link to an album. Anyone who receives a shared memory item can forward and share the information with others. If you have a link, you do not need to sign in to FamilySearch in order to share the link.

You cannot add shared albums to your memories.

Steps (website)

From Family Tree

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch
  2. In Family Tree on the FamilySearch.org website, display the person page of the person whose memory you want to share.
  3. Click Memories
  4. Click the memory that you want to share.
  5. Click the Share icon in the upper right corner.
  6. Click how you want to share the memory: Facebook, Messenger, Twitter, WhatsApp, Line, Email, Copy Link, or Download. 
    1. To copy the URL, click Copy Link. You can then paste the URL into an email message.
    2. To email the URL, click Email. Your email opens, or you see a list of email applications to choose from. When the email opens, it already contains the URL. Add your message and send it. Depending on your individual computer settings, a new browser window could open. In that case, use the copy option instead.

From Memories

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch
  2. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Memories.
  3. In the drop-down, click Gallery
  4. Click the album or memory that you want to share.
  5. Click Share
  6. Click a way to share the memory: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, email, or copy link.
    1. To copy the URL, click Copy. You can then paste the URL into an email message.
    2. To email the URL, above the web address, click Email. Your email opens, or you see a list of email applications to choose from. When the email opens, it already contains the URL. Add your message and send it. Depending on your individual computer settings, a new browser window could open. In that case, use the copy option instead.

Steps (mobile app)

You can share memories from both the Family Tree and Memories mobile apps. Use the website to share entire albums.

Family Tree mobile app

  1. In the Family Tree mobile app, navigate to the Memories tab of a person.
  2. Tap the memory item that you want to share.
    • Android: Tap the 3 dots icon and then tap Share. 
    • Apple iOS: If you see no icons, tap the memory item. Then, in the bottom-left tap the square icon. For stories and audio files, the square icon is in the upper left.
  3. Sharing options vary by device. 

Memories mobile app

  1. In the Memories mobile app, tap the item you want to share.
    • Apple iOS: Tap the item a second time to bring up the bottom banner. Then tap the square icon at the bottom-left of the screen.
    • Tap the 3 dots icon and then tap Share.
  2. Sharing options vary by device. 

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite lacks the Memories feature.
