How do I search the indexed International Genealogical Index (IGI)?

Search the indexed names from the International Genealogical Index when you search all historical record collections. A general search includes the billions of names indexed and added to the IGI.

You can limit your search to names from the original International Genealogical Index.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.org.
  2. On the FamilySearch home page, click Search.
  3. Click Records.
  4. Scroll to Find a Collection. In the Collection Title search box, type International Genealogical Index.
  5. Below the search box, click International Genealogical Index (IGI).
  6. Enter your search terms.

Steps (mobile app)

  1. Open the Family Tree mobile app.
  2. Tap the 3 menu lines icon.
  3. Tap Search Historical Records.
  4. Scroll to Find a Collection.
  5. In the Collection Title field, enter International Genealogical Index.
  6. Below the search box, tap International Genealogical Index (IGI)
