How do I revoke access from helpers and third-party products?

When you use third-party products or allow helper access, you allow the product or person to see your information. You can revoke access at any time.

The following information is available to the third-party company or helper:

  • Third-party company products. Third-party company products have access to your personal information and information about your ancestors on Family Tree. They can see whether you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Membership status allows the company to determine if you qualify for a complimentary account.
  • Helpers. Helpers have access to your personal information and the information that you see in Family Tree.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.
  2. In the top right corner, click your name.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Permissions.
  5. In the third-party subscription access section, find the product or person from which you want to revoke access. If you do not see the name, either the helper access to your account expired, or the helper used your helper number to access your account.
  6. Click Revoke Access.
  7. Read the message that appears. If you still want to continue, click Revoke Access again.

If you revoke access from a third-party product, we advise you to also contact the company and cancel your account.

Steps (mobile app)

You can revoke access from helpers in the mobile Family Tree app.

  1. Open the Family Tree app on your Android or Apple iOS device.
  2. Tap the 3 lines icon—lower right on Apple iOS and upper left on Android.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap the Subscriptions tab.
  5. Tap to turn off the toggle for Receive and Offer Help.
