How do I prepare a lesson in the Planner?

The Planner can help you plan an individualized lesson to help a family or individual meet family history goals. You can only create lesson plans on the website version of the Planner.

The Planner is available in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.

Access plans

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.org, and go to Helper Resources.
  2. On the right, find the Planner section. If the Planner section does not appear, click Try it.
  3. Click a name on the list. If no list of names appears, skip to the next step.
  4. On the left, click Plans.

Create a new lesson plan

  1. Click Create New.
  2. Enter a plan title.
  3. Enter the name of the family or person that you will help.
  4. Enter the name of the ancestor or an area of interest to cover.
  5. Click Add a Relationship Path.
    1. Enter the ID of a focus ancestor. Be sure that the system found the right person and click Add.
    2. You can open the relationship chart in the plan.
  6. Enter your lesson plan.
  7. On the top right, click Save.

Edit a plan

  1. Click a name on the Planner.
  2. Click Plans.
  3. Click a plan title.
  4. Make changes and click Save.

Delete a plan

  1. Click a name on the Planner.
  2. Click Plans.
  3. Click a plan title.
  4. On the top-left, Actions and then Delete.

Share the plan

In Planner, only you see the lesson plans you create. To share a copy with the person that you help, you can print your plan. Or you can download it and send as an email.

  1. Open the plan.
  2. On the top-left of the plan, click Actions.
    1. Click Print for a paper copy to share.
    2. Click Download for an electronic copy that you can share through email.
