How do I permanently delete memory items?

When you delete an item from the Memories app, the memory moves to the Recently Deleted folder for 120 days before being permanently deleted. You can permanently delete an item manually.

Steps (website)

  1. While signed in to FamilySearch, click Memories.
  2. Click Gallery.
  3. Click Recently Deleted.
  4. Click the memory that you want to delete permanently.
  5. Click Actions.
  6. Click Delete Permanently.

Steps (Memories mobile app)

  1. In the Memories mobile app, display your recently deleted memories.
    • Android: In the upper left, tap the three lines, followed by Recently Deleted
    • Apple iOS: In the lower right, tap the three lines, followed by Recently Deleted.
  2. On an Apple iOS device tap Select. On an Android device, in the upper right, tap the 3 dots and then tap Select Memories.
  3. Tap each memory that you would like to delete permanently.
  4. In the upper right, tap the three dots.
  5. Tap Permanently Delete.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

You cannot use memories on Family Tree Lite. Please use the Family Tree Memories app or the full version of the FamilySearch website.
