Batches are groups of one or more images that you can usually index in 30–60 minutes. You can check out up to 10 batches at a time, though no more than 4 batches from the same project.
The My Batches panel is the best pathway to check out batches and return to batches you that you previously worked on.
Steps
- Sign in to FamilySearch.
- In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Get Involved.
- In the drop-down menu, click Indexing.
- On the My Batches panel, click Find a Project.
- Search for the type of batch that you want to find. You can use these options to search, sort, and filter the available batches:
- Search field: Enter keywords to find the project you want to work on.
- All or Favorites: Select whether you want to see all projects that are available or just see the ones you marked as favorites.
- Difficulty level: Choose how easy or difficult the project is.
- Language: Choose the language of the project. The system automatically sets the language to match your browser language. But you can choose a different project language.
- Sort by: Change the order in which you see projects.
- Batches to check out: Indicate the number of batches you want.
- (Optional) When you find a project that you like, click the star icon above the Index button to mark it as a favorite.
- When you find a project you want to work on, click the Index or Review button.
- If you do not complete a particular batch of records within the next seven days, it will be returned to the project menu for a different volunteer to complete.
- If you receive a batch that someone else returned incomplete, a message appears to let you know that some work on the batch may be completed. Click OK to open the batch.
- When you review a batch that has too many errors for you to correct in a reasonable time, return it for re-indexing. With our backlog of records that need review, use your time to review, rather than correct, records. To return a batch, click the Batch tab in the top right corner of the screen. From the drop-down menu, click Return Batch.
