How do I arrange and filter the memories in my gallery?

You can arrange and filter the photographs, stories, documents, and audio files that are in your Memories Gallery.

Tip: To arrange memories in a specific order, create an album and put the items in it. You can then reorder the memories within that album.

Steps (website)

  1. On FamilySearch.org, sign in then click Memories.
  2. In the drop-down, click Gallery.
  3. To limit the type of memory that you see, click one of the five filter options across the top.
    • All shows all your memory items.
    • Photos (the camera icon) shows only photos.
    • Stories (the open book icon) shows only stories.
    • Documents (the two pieces of paper icon) shows only documents.
    • Audio (the microphone icon) shows only audio files.
  4. Use the options in the left panel to filter memories. You can combine them with the filters across the top.
    • My Memories shows all memory items: photos, documents, stories, and audio files.
    • My Archive shows items that you placed in the archive folder. When you put a memory item in My Archive, it leaves your gallery view. Archived items remain in albums unless you remove them. Moving a memory item to My Archive does not affect the visibility of the memory item for anyone else. You can move memory items back to your gallery or to any album.
    • Recently Deleted holds deleted memories for 120 days. Then they are permanently deleted. Only you can view items in this folder.
    • Bookmarks shows memories that you bookmarked.
    • Albums shows items in each album.
  5. Use the Arrange menu on the top right to further narrow the list of what you see:
    • Newest Added shows your most recently added memories first.
    • Title (A–Z) sorts items alphabetically by title. Items without titles do not show.
    • No Title lists items without a title.
    • Not Tagged lists items without tags.
    • Not in an Album lists items not in any album.
    • Private shows memories your marked Private.
    • Public shows memories the public can see.
  6. Use the two options next to the Arrange menu to change how you see items arranged on the page.
    1. Grid View (6 black squares). The gallery defaults to a grid view of your memory items, and it sorts items with your most recently added items showing first. Use the sort options to change the order of your items.
    2. List View (3 bullet points with dashes). In the list view, you have additional options for arranging your memories.
      • The Event Date option sorts items by event date. If you did not add an event date to an item, it is not in the list.
      • The Event Place option sorts items by the event place. If you did not add an event place to an item, it is not in the list.
  7. To organize memories within an album:
    1. Click the album title.
    2. If you want to filter this album, use the Arrange options.
    3. If you want to organize album contents, click Reorder underneath the album's title in the center of the screen.
    4. Click and drag the memories to reorder them. Click Save.

Steps (mobile app)

In both the Family Tree and Memories mobile apps, you can choose whether you see photos, stories, documents, or audio files.

  1. Open the Family Tree or Memories mobile app.
  2. If you are using the Family Tree mobile app, display the memories of the person that you want. Filter options appear if you have more memories for the person than fit on the screen.
  3. Tap one of the five filter options across the top.
    • Photos (the camera icon) shows only photos.
    • Stories (the open book icon) shows only stories.
    • Documents (the two pieces of paper icon) shows only documents.
    • Audio (the microphone icon) shows only audio files.
