You can create topic tags to describe the photos, stories, and audio files on FamilySearch. Examples are: recipe, war hero, baptism. Tags make memories easier to find.
- You can add the same tag to multiple memories all at once.
- Any user can add or remove topic tags from a memory.
- A memory can have up to 30 topic tags.
- Topic tags cannot contain emojis or the following characters: ~!@#$%&*(){}[]<>?/|\:;_+=.
- FamilySearch does not translate topic tags. If you add the topic tag "church" (in English), a user who searches for "iglesia" (the Spanish word for Church) cannot find it.
- You cannot create duplicate topic tags. Nor can you create duplicates where the only difference is capitalization.
- FamilySearch treats different forms of a word as separate tags. Therefore, you can create both "recipe" and "recipes." If, however, you search for "recipe," you do not find memories tagged with "recipes."
- When you search memories, you can include up to 5 topic tags. The system looks for memories with all the tags that you included in the search.
- If you add a name as a topic tag, the system does not attach the memory to a person in Family Tree.
