What are the honored ancestor, ancestral hall, keywords, and generation poem in a jiapu?

The jiapu on FamilySearch are not indexed, which means you cannot search for the names of individual people who are listed in it. However, you can search for jiapu using information that is commonly included in jiapu, including the honored ancestor, ancestral hall, keyword, and generation poem.

  • Honored ancestor. The first member of the clan.
  • Ancestral hall. The clan’s original place of origin.
  • Generation poem. A sequence of words that proscribed for use in the names of all men in a clan who are born in the same generation. The poem can be used to figure out how closely two people from the same clan are related.
  • Keyword. Any word in the FamilySearch catalog that is in the notes, series, subjects, statement of responsibility, authors, or title field.
