How do I correct a brief life history that was written by a user?

In Family Tree, you can edit a person's brief life history that has been written by a Family Tree user. You can also choose to replace the computer-generated life history shown on the About tab with the user-written history on the Details tab.

Steps (website)

Tip: Many Family Tree users appreciate it when other users contact them before making changes. You can send a brief and courteous message about your proposed changes to the Brief Life History using FamilySearch messaging.

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch, click Family Tree, and then click Tree.
  2. Find the person on the tree that you want to enhance.
  3. Click the person's name. In the details that pop-up, click the person's name again. You will be taken to that person’s page.
  4. Click Details.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of this tab.
  6. In the Brief Life History, click More.
  7. Click Edit.
  8. Enter your corrections and a reason statement to explain why the information is correct.
  9. If you want this version of the brief life history to replace the computer-generated history on the About tab, click Publish this Brief Life History to the about page.
  10. Click Save.

Steps (mobile app)

  1. Navigate to the Person page of the individual whose information that you want to correct.
  2. Tap Details.
  3. Tap the Brief Life History.
  4. In the upper-right corner, tap ...
  5. Tap Edit Brief Life History.
  6. Enter your corrections, and tap Continue.
  7. Enter a reason statement to explain why the information is correct.
  8. Tap Save.
