Book Scanning Instruction Resources

What is Book Scanning?

FamilySearch offers a free, easy service to digitally preserve personal family history or a book of genealogical value. There are several book scanning centers located in select partner libraries throughout the United States and Canada, including at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Each center is staffed with volunteers and special book scanning equipment. Guests can bring written histories to be scanned and published online in the new FamilySearch Digital Library. Digitized books are word searchable, which allows guests to search for family names, locations, or other subjects of interest. Most donations can be printed or downloaded as a searchable PDF from the FamilySearch Digital Library.
