If you live in the U.S., Canada, or Brazil, you can use your mobile phone number to activate your FamilySearch account. You will receive a text message with a 6-digit verification code that can be entered in your FamilySearch account settings. If you do not receive the code, check that your phone number is correct and then request a new code.
Steps to check your mobile phone number
- Sign in to FamilySearch.
- In the upper right corner, click your name, then Settings.
- Click the Account tab at the top.
- Check that the mobile phone number is correct. If it is incorrect, click Edit, and make the needed changes.
- Click Save.
Steps to resend a verification code
If your mobile phone number is correct, you can resend a new verification code. The code is valid for 20 minutes from the time it is sent.
If you are able to sign in to your account on FamilySearch:
- Sign in to FamilySearch.
- In the upper right corner, click your name, then click Settings.
- Click the Account tab at the top.
- Next to your recovery mobile phone number, click Verify.
- A pop-up appears that says "Check Text Messages." When you receive the new code on your phone, enter the new verification code here.
- If you need the code sent again, click Resend Code.
- Click Verify.
If you are unable to sign in to your account on FamilySearch:
- Contact FamilySearch Support.
- FamilySearch Support verifies the information that you used to create your FamilySearch account.
- FamilySearch Support then resends a 6-digit verification code to activate your FamilySearch account.
- Go to verify.fs.org.
- Enter the 6-digit verification code into the verification code field on the screen.
- Click Save.
