You Asked! 2016 Family History Library Block Party

One of the highlights last year at the Family History Library was the Global Family Reunion block party. So many people have asked if we are going to do it again this summer. We are happy to announce that the answer is yes!

The Details

The Family History Library block party will be held:

  • On Saturday, June 11, 2016
  • From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • On West Temple between North and South Temple

We have planned fun activities for you and your family members of all ages, including:

  • Find your famous relatives
  • Explore your personal heritage
  • Learn what world events happened during the year you or one of your ancestors was born
  • Experience live musical entertainment, a rock wall, and bounce houses
  • Dine at some of Salt Lake’s best food trucks
  • Play pioneer games, and get your face painted

The block party is about more than bounce houses and face painting. Here is the experience one family had when they came last year.

father and son doing family history at the FHL block party

“My kids loved all the outside activities, but their faces really lit up when we went inside the library, and I told them what was inside. We checked out our family tree and learned about a few of our ancestors. They kept asking me ‘Mom, are our ancestors in this building?’”

Another young family told of how they popped into the library for a quick look around and found family histories detailing the hardships, trials, and day-to-day experiences of their ancestors both online and in book form. “I want to see all the books full of all my ancestors” was my favorite kid quote of the day.

Come for the fun, stay for the inspiration and heart-turning experience of finding your family at the 2016 Family History Library block party.
