What to Expect in 2013

After a record indexing year (loud cheers for the 1940 US Census Community Project), there is one obvious finding that stands out from the rest: the power of community. In order to continue publishing large numbers of records more quickly, FamilySearch indexing has developed initiatives for 2013 based on your growing, enthusiastic communities.

  1. Hooray for immigrants! Our US Immigration and Naturalization campaign is live with over 20 projects ready for download right now. Search for US (Community Project) in the indexing software’s download list to help locate more ancestors who made their way across the sea.
  2. Maravilloso Latin America! FamilySearch would like to applaud a community who loves indexing as much as soccer (well, perhaps that’s a slight exaggeration). With a whopping 40 projects ready to download and a National Mexico Death Index on its way, we’re predicting a record year.
  3. Fantastico Italiano. Digitizing more than 115 million records is what the Italian Ancestors Project is chomping through in 2013.
Read Italian? Come join the crowd!

If your expertise or interest falls outside one of these three areas, you can still help! Build your own specialized community by project or language expertise, or adopt a project on a local level and socialize it. There are more than 150 projects to choose from; see a full list on our Project Page. Together, we can publish even more searchable records on FamilySearch.org.
