The Fruit Thereof, It Filled My Soul with Exceeding Great Joy

Fruitful Thereof

In a recent FamilySearch Patron Services Division Meeting Scott Stout and Diane Loosle gave encouragement and direction to the many individuals who serve under them. Hear what they have to share.

From Scott:

By now many of you have heard the phrase Find, Take, Teach. We are encouraging directors and consultants across the world to each have a personal experience with finding an ancestor’s name to take to the temple, and then to share that experience with others. We see the blessing and opportunity you have as a director to help others to Find, Take, Teach. Some of your time may be spent in guiding members through the finding process and preparing submissions for temple ordinances. You may also give attention to the teaching process. You may mentor a member as they learn how to teach their own family about the experience of finding that precious ancestor.

We challenge you to become a witness of the work of Find, Take, Teach. We at FamilySearch are impressed by the wonderful spirit you directors bring to the family history center. We understand the dedication you have for the work and we know of the tender feelings you have for your staff and your patrons. Like Lehi in I Nephi 8:11-12 you can be desirous to share your experience.

v-11: And it came to pass that I did go forth and partake of the fruit thereof; and I beheld that it was most sweet, above all that I ever before tasted. Yea, and I beheld that the fruit thereof was white, to exceed all the whiteness that I had ever seen.

v-12: And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore, I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew that it was desirable above all other fruit.

Of course, we know Lehi was describing the Love of God and the Atonement of our Savior. But his experience with the Holy Ghost is similar to what we feel as we participate in the Find, Take, Teach process. The Spirit of Elijah is the Holy Ghost bearing witness to the divine nature of the family. This witness of the Holy Ghost is present when you are able to offer saving ordinances to an ancestor.

As Lehi felt, what is more natural than wishing to share that experience with loved ones? We can teach that our responsibility and calling is to first teach our own families about these blessings. Then, we can reach out and teach others whom we love. We can witness to the blessing of experiencing the Spirit of Elijah and to participating in holy saving ordinances.

How do you best accomplish this endeavor?

  • Have a personal Find, Take, Teach experience
  • Support your local priesthood goals
  • Invite youth and families to the center to engage in discovery experiences
  • Prepare to help new converts—be a friend along their path to the temple
  • Focus on the My Family Booklet to support beginners with empty Family Trees
  • Mentor beginners with full Family Trees, giving descendancy and research support
  • Share the joy you feel in this work

From Diane:
We are part of a team of Heavenly Father’s children who are blazing new trails. We are brought here by the Lord at this time to help His children as He hastens His work. He has prepared the path and we just need to discover our part of the plan. We are so very blessed to be here at this time doing this work. My faith in you is very strong.
