Stake Indexing Director Webinar Recording

We hope you were able to attend the recent (June 16, 2015) stake indexing director webinar, where we introduced a significant new indexing effort in languages other than English. If you missed it, we strongly recommend that you watch the recording and read “A Call to Arms (and Hands and Fingers!)” on the FamilySearch indexing blog.

Tens of thousands of indexers and potential indexers are needed to meet the critical need for searchable records in many languages. The following projects are recommended for potential indexers in your stake who are native or near-native speakers of French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish and for any English-speaking indexers who are willing to learn to index specific projects in these languages:

  • Brasil, Pernambuco—Óbitos Civis, 1900–2011 (Brazil death records—Portuguese)
  • Chile—Registros Civiles, 1885–1932 (Chile civil registrations of births, marriages, and deaths—Spanish)
    • Chile, Civil Registration—Births, 1885–1932
    • Chile, Civil Registration—Marriages, 1885–1932
    • Chile, Civil Registration—Deaths, 1885–1932
  • Italia (Antenati Italiani)—any of the death records (morti) projects (Italian)
  • Philippines—Civil Registration of Marriages, 1899–1985 (English, with some Spanish)

A new quickstart guide is available for each of these projects to help indexers get started. Look for the Choose a Language heading, select the language you want (French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish), and then look under Additional Resources for any links that begin with the word “Quickstart.”

Please Note: Available training resources for these projects are currently limited to the quickstart guides only. Please do not call the regular FamilySearch Support number for help on these specific projects because they are not yet equipped to provide this specialized language support.

Additional online help will be provided in the near future; however, you should not wait for these additional resources to begin identifying and encouraging people in your stake who are ready now to begin working on these projects.

Thank you for your help with this important new initiative.

Sincerely,

FamilySearch Indexing
